Elegant coffee set for five with 5 cups and 5 saucers, cream glazed porcelain with floral decoration and gilded by Royal Doulton; vintage English 1930s.

Items in the Art Deco style were often produced using new materials of the period, such as stainless steel, aluminium and Bakelite — an early type of plastic. Bold colours were used to produce attractive design by creating strong contrasts.

How to care
Avoid washing gilded and overglaze painted ceramics in a dishwasher. Tiny sand particles in the water will eventually make the decoration look dull.

Porcelain, ironstone and pottery are tough materials. Wash all ceramics normally in a warm water with a sponge. Be gentle with overglaze decorations.
