Spectacular small jug in pewter, in the form of a bird hatching from the egg, by Jean Garnier (1853−1910) inscribed near the base, marked Etain Garanti pur Paris, Art Nouveau; antique French circa 1900.

Art Nouveau was a major international style dominating the art, architecture and design between about 1890 and the mid-1910s. It took its inspiration from the nature and used the forms of flowers, trees, birds, animals and insects in design elements.
