Beautiful porcelain serving plate with printed and painted butterflies and greenery, of the Aesthetic Movement style, by Edwin James Drew Bodley; antique English circa 1880. The mark impressed on the base.

Aesthetic style was very popular in the 1870s and 1880s. The homewares in Aesthetic fashion were elegantly designed and useful; the decoration had to be aesthetic, which meant elegant, tasteful and not garish. Design elements were inspired by the imports of ceramics, lacquer furniture and fabrics from the Far East.

How to care
Avoid washing gilded and overglaze painted ceramics in a dishwasher. Tiny sand particles in the water will eventually make the decoration look dull.
