Shabby chic pair of wood candlesticks with stems carved to imitate bamboo stocks, stained in red; antique English Aesthetic Movement Victorian, circa 1875.

Aesthetic style was very popular in the 1870s and 1880s. The homewares in Aesthetic fashion were elegantly designed and useful; the decoration had to be aesthetic, which meant elegant, tasteful and not garish. Design elements were inspired by the imports of ceramics, lacquer furniture and fabrics from the Far East.

How to care
Scratches on solid wood furniture are easily repaired by scratch cover polish. We like the Rustins multi-colour - test on small discreet area first!
